The aim of this course is to familiarize students with types of accidents in the environment and methods for their remediation, as well as training students for independent analysis and application of methods for remediation of chemical accidents. Also, students will acquire skills to learn about situations of environmental accidents and gross violations of ecological systems by polluting substances. After completion of the course, the student is expected to recognize the consequences of an accident on the basis of geological and atmospheric conditions and properties of substances and compounds that are uncontrolled discharged into water, air and soil. Students should be able to: define and describe the most frequently applied remedial techniques; analyze and examine contaminated sites and, based on this, determine the need for rehabilitation; choose the technique or technology necessary for remediation of a particular site, manage physical-chemical-biological processes in the direction of protection from further contamination and rehabilitation of the existing state; solve calculation tasks related to remedial treatments.
