The basic objectives of the EU’s environmental policy are the preservation of natural values, the promotion of a resource-efficient economy and the care of public health. Environmental policy is multisectoral. Therefore, this subject is one of the key to the direction of Chemistry – Environmental Protection. By attending classes in the subject of Hazardous Substances and hazardous waste management, students will be familiarized with this area in sufficient detail to actively engage in the processes of hazardous substances and wastes management envisaged by international and national legislation, which should enable their independent work in this area.

Also, students will acquire the ability to recognize in a given situation (factory, small, medium and large enterprises, institutes, etc.) where and when it comes to creating hazardous waste, perform its characterization and categorization, and based on these data, technological process as well as opportunities at a given moment suggests the most optimal ecologically sustainable management of the same. After passing the exam, a student is expected to form a critical attitude towards the negative impact of a man who has caused serious difficulties in the functioning of the biosphere and has contributed to the improvement of the quality of the environment by using the acquired knowledge in different laboratories where he will use the existing ones, but also to develop new methods for detection and identification of hazardous waste.

We would especially like to point out the very successful cooperation with Fiat (FIAT Krajsler Automobili Srbija – FCA Serbia), in which students collected hazardous waste and recycled it. With the help of them, large quantities of chemical waste, generated in student’s and research laboratories, are transported to Belgrade where there is further recycling . We have also received the EMERGENCY SPILL KIT CHEMICAL from the Fiat (for collection of chemical waste in student laboratories), as well as the MSDS lists (safety data sheets).
