Practical Information
Visa regime for entering Serbia The Republic of Serbia is in the precess of negotiations to join the European Union (EU). Citizens of the EU member countries and many other countries (USA, Russian federation, ...) DO NOT NEED VISA for entering and staying in Serbia up to 90 days.
Workshop location Hotel Kragujevac is right in the city center of Kragujevac, ideally located to explore the city on foot with a myriad of shops and restaurants all around the hotel.
Getting to Kragujevac By Plane There is no commercial airport in Kragujevac. The closest are located in Belgrade (150 km to the North) and Niš (150 km to the South). Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport is located 18 kilometers away from the city center. There are several options to reach the central Belgrade's bus station (see here), and then to take a bus to Kragujevac. We can organize the local taxi service for transportation from the given airport to Kragujevac. The price for this service is around 50 euros in one direction. This price can be reduced if more people share the same vehicle. If you are interested, please contact the organizers magic2018@pmf.kg.ac.rs By Bus This is the most recommendable option when visiting Kragujevac. The drive from Belgrade lasts 2 hours and tickets can be purchased at Belgrade's bus station for about 10 euros round trip. The bus from Niš is slower because it stops at Jagodina and several other smaller towns. The city center of Kragujevac is easily reachable from the central bus station in 10 minutes. By Train Kragujevac can be also reached by train and the train station is located next to the central bus station. This mean of transport is, however, not recommendable, as it takes much more than by bus and there is not direct connection from Belgrade, so you would have to change train in Lapovo. Nevertheless, if you are arriving from the south of the country, train might be worth considering. By Car Located in the center of the country, Kragujevac has good connection to highway E-75, leading to Belgrade and Niš. Parking is not a problem in the city. Currency The official currency of Serbia is Serbian dinar (RSD). Both credit and debit cards are widely accepted in Serbia. Newertheless, bank cards are rarely used in taxis, bakeries, fast food outlets and tobacco stores, so it's very good to HAVE SOME CASH in hand. Cash can be directly withdrawn from ATMs, which can be found at the airport and in major cities. There are also exchange offices and they routinely accept euros, U.S. dollars and pounds sterling. Banks also perform currency exchange, but with somewhat less favorable exchange rates than small exchange offices. Kragujevac was the first capital of modern Serbia (1818–41); the
first constitution in the Balkans was proclaimed in the city in
1835. The city's first grammar school and printworks were both
established in 1833, followed by the professional National theatre
(1835), Military academy (1837) and the first full-fledged
university in the newly independent Serbia (1838). Kragujevac was
the site of a massacre by the Nazis (1941), in which 2,778 Serb men
and boys were murdered. Contemporary Kragujevac is known for its
munitions (Zastava Arms) and automobile industry (Fiat Automobili
Srbija).
